Editorial

After reading the story regarding the student at Rutgers University, sorrow and anger filled my brain. Invading privacy is not only wrong, but is against the law and ethically and morally corrupt. My overall reaction to that piece would be that the roommate wanted attention, neither kids were thinking clearly and of course the poor boy wasnt ready to be "out of the closet."

Clearly if a student tweets about his roommate having "the room till midnight" he obviously had to had known he wasnt going to be with a girl. I think that he knew what was going on and wanted to be the funny guy and stream the video live. Not only is that wrong, but is so creepy at the same time. Nothing stereotypical, but usually when you have a gay roommate, you clearly know that he's gay whether or not he has officially told you. The roommate had a clear suspicion and wanted to get a crude laugh out of the stunt.

Getting a good laugh out of the stunt was probably the farthest the pain would go in the mind of the roommate. In his defense I guess I wouldnt think that the boy in the video would commit suicide, so its clear that the roommate didnt think AT ALL what the consequences would be. But at the same time, when reading this article it made me so angry that someone could be that selfish to get a good laugh on campus in the total expense of someone elses' life. I think that the roommate definitely deserves all the punishment possible and couldnt be thought of as a simple prank gone wrong.

In conclusion, my reaction to the article would be angery and upset about the actions of the roommate. The poor boy was cornered into coming out when he wasnt ready which caused his suicidal death. I feel so bad for his friends and family and feel that his death could have been completely preventable.
